2021 BCHF conference to be delivered virtually

The BC Historical Federation and the Surrey Historical Society will be taking the 2021 conference entirely online. The dates of virtual conference and AGM will be June 3-5.

“When we starting planning for 2021, we were really hoping to hold some physically distanced in-person components at conference such as our much loved field trips”. BCHF President and Conference Chair Shannon Bettles comments. “However, with too much uncertainty and the safety our our members in mind, we’ve decided to offer our program entirely online”.

Each year more than 50 delegates travel from all corners of the province, gathering for three days of history presentations, field trips, and the BCHF annual general meeting. The 2021 conference will include live virtual presentations where participants can ask questions and interact with presenters; virtual field trips around Surrey; a virtual Book Prize Gala; an online silent auction; and virtual AGM.

Last month, the BCHF hosted its first ever virtual AGM, and were pleased with the turnout of 70 members from delegates representing all corners of the province.

The theme of the 2021 conference is “Connections”, which is fitting as British Columbians have been working to stay connected with their families, friends and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. History and heritage helps us connect with the past as we discover who we are. We connect with one another, we share our diverse cultures, and we create richer communities. Together, we preserve our common inheritances so they can be shared with future generations.
