Centennial Legacy Fund
The Centennial Legacy Fund was initiated in 2017 to acknowledge, in turn and collectively, Canada 150, British Columbia’s Union with Canada 1871 Sesquicentennial 2021, and the centennial of the founding of what is now called British Columbia Historical Federation, in 1922.
The Centennial Legacy Fund supports projects that encourage historical research in regards to British Columbia’s history, its communities and its diverse peoples.
Success applications will be ones that promote the preservation and marking of historical sites, natural features, and other objects and places of historical interest, as well as those that encourage research in British Columbia history particularly at the initiatory stages. BCHF will also assist in the publishing of historical sketches, studies and documents. In its selection, the executive may specify special themes, or it may establish priorities of the above noted goals.

Applications may come from:
- individuals from the private or public sector
Funds will not be available for sustaining archives, museums or other institutions but could be available for:
- Initiating projects
- Purchasing for public institutions historical items including authenticated documents and artifacts of unique significance, and
- Supporting research expenses
Success applications will be ones that fall under one or more of the following selection criteria:
- promote the preservation and marking of historical sites, natural features, and other objects and places of historical interest
- projects that encourage research in British Columbia history particularly at the initiatory stages
- publishing of historical sketches, studies and documents
In its selection, the executive may specify special themes, or it may establish priorities according to organizational goals.
Applications will be accepted annually with a deadline of December 31. Grants will be awarded at the annual conference of the BC Historical Federation held each spring.
$5000 will be the maximum available to any single application, and, as in all awards from this fund, twenty percent will be withheld pending receipt of a final report, this due no later than three months after completion of the project.
Applications can be made in successive years to a maximum of five years inclusive. Rules of confidentiality will apply in the application process. The Federation will make public disclosure of the successful applications.
Announcements of the inaugural offerings available from this fund will be printed in issues of British Columbia History magazine and the Federation’s Newsletter, and will be posted on its Website.

Named benefactions can be added to the fund, by Council confirmation.
Contributions from the public and private sectors are solicited. By these measures it is hoped and anticipated that the endowment will grow to the benefit of our aims and aspirations to aid the cause of our history and our heritage.
