BCHF member initiatives receive BC Museums Association Awards of Merit

Congratulations to the following initiatives involving BCHF member societies, which each received an Award of Merit for outstanding achievement in the museum, gallery, archives or heritage resources field at the BC Museums Association 2016 Gala Reception and Dinner, held October 13, 2016, in Whistler, BC:

  • Chinese Canadian Artifacts Project (CCAP) – Launched in July 2016, the Chinese Canadian Artifacts Project (CCAP) is a searchable, publicly accessible online database of over 6000 Chinese Canadian artifacts held by 16 local and regional museums in BC, including Barkerville Historic Town, CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum, Chilliwack Museum and Archives, Cowichan Valley Museum and Archives, Cumberland Museum and Archives, Esquimalt Municipal Archives, Kaatza Station Museum and Archives, Kelowna Museums, Lytton Museum and Archives, Nanaimo Museum, New Westminster Museum and Archives, Revelstoke Museum and Archives, Sidney Museum and Archives, Touchstone Nelson Museum of Art and History, Salt Spring Archives, and Yale Historic Site.
  • Sikh Heritage Museum National Historic Site – Located at the Gur Sikh Temple in Abbotsford, the Sikh Heritage Museum was recognized for four years of innovative programming and exhibits recognizing and raising awareness of Sikh heritage and history in British Columbia.

A third Award of Merit went to the Residential and Indian Day School Art Research Project, based out of the University of Victoria, for gathering and sharing the personal stories behind student-produced art at residential and Indian day schools.
