Black history month —events in Victoria

Black history and ancestry are being celebrated in Victoria. Check out the following events taking place in February:

February 17 — BC Black History and Heritage Day
Learn from historical experts from the Saanich Pioneers, the United Empire Loyalists, the Victoria Genealogical Society and the Old Cemeteries Society. View displays and enjoy live jazz music from the Oak Bay High Jazz Band. Location: Cook Street Activity Centre at #1-380 Cook Street from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission by donation.

February 24- Ross Bay Cemetery Tour
This guided tour through the Ross Bay Cemetery will highlight BC’s Black pioneers. Hosted by Valin Marshall of BC Black History Awareness Society and John Adams of the Old Cemeteries Society. Arrive 10 minutes early to purchase your ticket for $5.00 Meet in front of Oregano’s in Fairfield Village, 1-1516 Fairfield Rd. Event is from 2:oo p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
