About the British Columbia Historical Federation

The British Columbia Historical Federation (BCHF) encourages interest in the history of British Columbia through research, presentation, and support in its role as an umbrella organization for provincial historical societies.

The Federation currently provides a collective voice for over 100 member societies and 24,000 individuals in the provincial not-for-profit historical sector.Ā Ā Our historyĀ dates back to 1922.

The Federation is a non–profit organization registered as a charitable society under theĀ Income Tax Act.

Honorary Patron: Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia

Since 1923, the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia has been the Federation’s Honorary Patron. The current Honorary Patron isĀ The Honourable Janet Austin, OBC,Ā Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

Constitution & Bylaws

The name of the Society is THE BRITISH COLUMBIA HISTORICAL FEDERATION

The purposes of the Society are:

  1. to promote the preservation and marking of historical sites, relics, natural features, and other objects and places of historical interest; and
  2. to stimulate public interest, and to encourage historical research, in British Columbia history; and
  3. to publish historical sketches, studies, and documents.
