Gary Sim to present A Brief History of Visual Artists in BC

Join artist, writer, and art historian Gary Sim for a special Heritage Week presentation in West Vancouver.

On Thursday, Feb. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ferry Building Gallery (1414 Argyle Ave.) he will present an overview of his project, a digital finding aid to more than 19,000 visual artists in BC.

The North Shore has been home to many important artists and Sim will use historical ephemera, documents, images and research to highlight a number of them, including Frederick Varley, Gordon Smith, Alistair Bell, Unity Bainbridge and Gertrude Lawson.

Cost is $15. Call 604-925-7270 to register.

Sim is an artist, researcher, writer and art historian who has researched and collected material on this subject for 25 years and for the past 18 years has been compiling a digital index, backed up by lists of more than 1,600 exhibitions, 13,000 artworks and hundreds of art-related groups, newspaper articles, and publications.
