On April 18, the Nanaimo Historical Society will receive an Honour in Heritage award from the City of Nanaimo.
The award will be presented at a special ceremony at the Port Theatre, Nanaimo. Tickets are FREE but must be reserved in advance at https://cnan.ca/2VP18bb or by contacting the Port Theatre Box Office at 250-754-8550.
The Honour in Heritage award is presented to individuals, groups and corporations who demonstrate outstanding support, advocacy, promotion or interpretation of Nanaimo’s heritage and history.
The Nanaimo Historical Society founded in 1953, has had to adapt to changing times in order to stay relevant.
“They survived for 66 years and they’re actually, I think, growing now. I have seen a turnaround,” Christine Meutzner, who nominated the group for the award said. “So I thought they should get some kind of recognition just for sheer longevity and sort of stick-with-it-ness and also the fact that they have in fact contributed in very concrete ways.”
