The Ladysmith & District Historical Society has been busy writing articles and producing exhibits.
Two articles about The Society’s work in prestigious province wide magazines highlight the society’s projects.
The Fall 2018 issue of British Columbia History magazine featured The Great War and the Home Front – Reportage from the Ladysmith Chronicle by Esther Sharp. The article is based on some of the extensive research the society is doing on the Great War and Ladysmith’s role in it.
Roundup, the magazine of the BC Museum Association ran a two page spread on the Legacy of Lives and Legends, A Canada 150 Heritage Video Project that the society completed. Season One is available to view on the LDHS YouTube Channel. The series was nominated for an Outstanding Achievement Award by the BCMA.
Meanwhile the Ladysmith Museum opened an exhibit called Great War. The Society is continuing to research WW1 soldiers from Ladysmith and has found 16 soldiers with a Ladysmith connection who are not on the Ladysmith Cenotaph. This year, the Legion, school and town focussed on honouring six of the 16 soldiers, and will honour the rest in future years.
The Ladysmith Museum winter hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday noon to 4 pm. New members are always welcome!
