Len McCann was born and raised in Shanghai. After wartime internment in Manila, he came to British Columbia. He worked in TV production before becoming assistant curator of the Vancouver Maritime Museum in 1968. His contributions to maritime history projects and his publications on the Hudson’s Bay Company steamship Beaver brought him many friends. So did his service as president of the Vancouver Historical Society 1978 to 1983. On the provincial level Len served as president of the BC Historical Federation 1997 to 1999 and as honorary president 1997-1999. In recent years, as Curator Emeritus of the Vancouver Maritime Museum, he assisted researchers and encouraged donations to the archives. Len passed away March 27, 2015. Friends across the province will remember him.
