Nominations for significant South Asian Canadian historic places open until November 6

Do you know a historic place that is important to the history of BC’s South Asian Canadian community?

Nominations are now being accepted for the South Asian Canadian Historic Places Recognition Project. The project aims to tell a more inclusive story of BC history by recognizing historic places that are important to individuals with ancestral connections to India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

To nominate a historic place, complete the online nomination form by November 6, 2016.

A selection of the nominated places will be officially recognized by the Province of British Columbia and placed on the BC Register of Historic Places and the Canadian Register of Historic Places.

The Project is a joint initiative of the Province of British Columbia, the Royal BC Museum, and the University of the Fraser Valley. Heritage BC is overseeing the nomination process.

More information is available in the Province of British Columbia news release “B.C. recognizes South Asian Canadian heritage”.
