Powell River considers name change

The Tla’amin Nation is suggesting that Powell River ought to be renamed, something city council is taking seriously. The present name honours Israel Powell, the superintendent of Indian Affairs for BC in the 1870s. He advocated assimilationist policies designed to “civilize” First Nations.
