Join the BCHF

Join and become part of a collective voice that encourages interest in the history of British Columbia through research, presentation, and support.

Founded in 1922, British Columbia Historical Federation is a non–profit organization registered as a charitable society under the Income Tax Act. The BCHF is an umbrella organization for provincial historical societies.

The Federation embraces a variety of membership classes: Member Societies, Affiliate Members, Associate (Individual), and Corporate Members.

Associate (Individual) Members

Individuals may become members of the BCHF for a fee of only $35 for a 12 month period. This includes subscription to BC History magazine ($20 value). Only $35 a year. Johnson Inc. offers members of BC Historical Federation a selection of insurance services at special group rates including comprehensive Medoc Travel Insurance and Home Insurance. When applying include the name of BCHF and your membership number on the application form in order to enjoy these special rates.

Member Societies

For: Local and regional historical societies with objectives consistent with those of the Federation. All dues paying members of the local or regional society shall also be members of the BCHF. Membership dues are $1.00 per member with a minimum $30.00 per year and a maximum of $75 per year. Only $1 per member to join up to a maximum fee of $75 with a minimum membership fee of $30. Member benefits:
  • Group’s name, website link, address, posted on BCHF website
  • Promotion of of special events, exhibits, etc. in BCHF News
  • Special member’s rates for advertising in BCHF News
  • Promotion of events through BCHF events calendar
  • Opportunities to nominate individual members of your society for a Certificate of Recognition
  • Eligibility to enter annual Best News and Media contest with a $250 prize
  • Multi-Subscriptions: Societies pay $20 per subscriber and get a yearly one-time ad in British Columbia History magazine
  • One subscription to BC BookWorld newspaper ($25 dollar value)
  • Opportunities for advocacy and effective lobbying because of BCHF membership numbers
  • Directors & Officers Liability Insurance: Mardon Insurance will provide information and quotations with special rates for BC Historical Federation members.

Affiliate Members

Groups, organizations and institutions (universities, libraries, museums, galleries, schools) without dues paying members with specialized interests or objectives of a historical nature. Only $35 a year. Member benefits:
  • Group’s name, website link, address, posted on BCHF website
  • Promotion of of special events, exhibits, etc. in BCHF News
  • Special member’s rates for advertising in BCHF News
  • Promotion of events through BCHF events calendar
  • Eligibility to enter annual Best News and Media contest with a $250 prize
  • Opportunities to nominate individuals or community groups for a Certificate of Merit
  • One subscription to BC BookWorld newspaper ($25 dollar value)
  • Opportunities for advocacy and effective lobbying because of BCHF membership numbers
  • Directors & Officers Liability Insurance: Mardon Insurance will provide information and quotations with special rates for BC Historical Federation members.
  • Children and grandchildren completing high school or eligible for the Johnson Inc. Scholarship Program

Corporate Members

Companies and organizations can become members of the BCHF. $100 a year. Member benefits:
  • Corporation’s name and website link posted on BCHF website
  • Special member’s rates for advertising in BCHF News
